Jaspal Kaur Singh (she/her) is a poet, prose writer, and Professor Emerita of the Indian diaspora who will never stop learning. Born and raised in Burma, she moved to the United States after living in India and Iraq.
Before recently receiving her MFA from Northern Michigan University, where she also taught coursework for nearly two decades, she earned a Ph.D from the University of Oregon. Over the course of her academic career, she has focused on postcolonial world literature and theory, comparative literature, creative writing, and the role of diaspora on identity, publishing various short and long works that explore these complex topics. Specifically, much of her writing examines Sikh gendered identity, maternal ancestry, and cultural displacement. She has authored and edited multiple texts, in addition to sharing her research on at least five continents.
Jaspal Kaur Singh now resides in the Pacific Northwest, where she enjoys birdwatching, gardening, sharing meals with her family, and drinking plenty of tea.
